Braces + Looking Young - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Well. Last week I had a tooth extracted, in preparation for braces (overcrowding in the top row of teeth). And today, I got braces. I only felt some pressure on my teeth, and maybe a dull pain, once I left the clinic. But after taking the world's longest nap, I woke up to some enormous MOTHERFUCKING PAINNN. ARRGHHHAHAH.
So now I'm quietly suffering. Even biting my lip hurts too much. I think I'm going to have to eat congee for dinner. (That's like an Asian version of porridge, for those curious.) The dude-man said it will hurt even more tomorrow, and will remain that way for the next few days. After that, I'll be able to eat/chew/whatever as per usual.
I think I'm going to take a few painkillers later, before I sleep again. I have a feeling I'm going to wake up in obscene pain.
The kinda weird thing about this is that I'm twenty, and I only know one other person who has braces at my age (except he's getting them off in two weeks). I think I'm going to feel rather self-conscious when I start classes tomorrow.
Additionally, I already look very, very young. At the bakery, customers just assume I'm in primary school/high school. Say, 10-14 years old. It's extremely frustrating having people assume my age, and then treat me accordingly. I find that a lot of uni students even do it subconsciously. They'll speak to me differently than they do to other students who actually look their age (or even older). But anyway, with braces, I'm really apprehensive that even more people will assume I'm, like, eight years younger than I am.
Anyway, I'm going to have these on for one and a half years -- which is supposedly quite brief. I just wish I hadn't complained so much as a kid; I could've had this over and done with years ago.
Oh man, I just love eating so much. I don't know what I'm going to do for the next few days/weeks, not being able to chew.
Argh.
Edit: Holy shit. My parents underestimated the amount of pain I was in, and tried to make me have dinner. I couldn't even chew on a single grain of rice -- the pain was ENORMOUS. So I had some leftover congee instead. And then some nice, cold yoghurt. And then a mug of soup. I'm still starving. I have a feeling I'm going to lose a lot of weight from this.

i had braces for 3 years until i was 18 (haha!). one and a half years is indeed quite short a time as far as braces go.
also, you will soon discover that kissing is a much difficult prospect than it was pre-braces.
*pats head* *steals congee*

i had braces, 5 years, it sucked.
you kinda forget they are there eventually, it becomes normal, once they come off though, wow, its much awesomeness.
I have the same problem, except that its in the lower row, had two of my precious teeth extracted T^T
At the begining, the pain was unbelivable!! X0 I couldn't eat anything, except for soup ;-; The braces kept scraching my lips from inside and they become infected and I couldn't even speack from the pain ;-;, but the doctor gave me something waxy to cover the edges and thank god the problem was solved..
The good thing is that they are on the lower row, no one can see them easly XD

I had to have 4 teeth taken out! 2 from the top row, and the 2 from the bottom. They did them two at a time ... like one from the top and bottom on the right side, so I could still chew on the left, and then the next week they'd take out the teeth on the left so I could.... kind of like chew with help from my tongue? And yes, killer headache after the anesthetics wore off. ><;;;
But what I hated most was ripping my tongue and mouth open countless times from the braces. The braces enjoy torturing people, I swear! >< Hope you feel better soon, though.
Lol at being confused with a 10 year old XDD
It's odd with me though. I'm supposedly tall for my age (I'm 15) where I live (China) even though all my friends are taller... but I have a young face... so some people think I'm like 18 or 19 while some think I'm like 11 or 12. XDD I went shopping for some clothes with my mom and aunt today and the salesperson kept calling me the Chinese equivalent of "little lady". It's like. Nu.

When asked by my teachers what I wanted to be when I grew up, I answered, 'Happy'. My teacher told me I didn't understand the question, and I told her that she didn't understand life.

Braces are a bitch. Full stop. &theyre going to chafe the inside of your cheek until your skin toughens up too so get out your wax &start learning how to pop it over your braces without it falling out ><" &seriously, conge &
But other than that, they'll be easier to cope with later on, just maybe don't clench your teeth together for a while ><"
&don't worry about being self-conscious, I still remember riding on the train with this fabulous man about late-20s I'd say very flashy sense of style you could tell... &he had braces
