Artist's Comments

This has been added to ~Lukiih's 'Quest For Improvement Project', so you should check it out. And so! Here begins the longest description I've ever written. (3000 points and a bonus nondescript gift for anyone that reads the whole thing.)

1996
So, I was eight. And I loved drawing animals. I drew dogs ALL the freakin' time. I also liked to draw people from fighting games. That's supposed to be Ryu up there, kickin' some arse. How hot does he look, eh! =P

2001 - the year I was introduced to coloured pencils.
Thirteen years old. So, uh. For some reason, I only have one drawing from 2001. The first coloured picture I ever drew of Raven. :pointandlaugh:

2002
Row One: o1. My first ever oekaki. o2. A coloured pencil drawing of my RPG character, Nightstar. (She was a squirrel.) o3. Fanart of Skuld, I think. For a contest.

Row Two: o1. My fire faerie, Illona. I was pretty damn proud of that thing, I recall. Her face is so squashed, lol. :( o2. A faerie with a plait - of which I was so extremely proud. (I went through an X-treme faery stage, alright. =P) o3. Another picture of Raven. LOL. God. o4. Fanart of Tifa. I was hella proud of that -- no lineart!!!! :wow: o5. First picture of my character, Skye.

Row Three: o1. Kasia. I swear I had absolutely no concept of how to draw noses and mouths. o2. A self-portrait for Art, I think. How crazy does my winking eye look?! o3. Some angel chick I submitted for a christmas card competition at my school. I was extremely proud of this. I didn't win. :( She has a TINY head. There is also some copout default "Clouds" photoshopped background behind her. o4. Something for a poster for school. Check out those crazy anime eyes! o5. My character, Aidan. LOL. Do you SEE why I never drew guys?

Row Four: o1. Some elf chick. o2. My bounty hunter, Fidelia. Mm, nonexistent nose. o3. Illona, again. Squashed face. o4. Akuzhin, old school style. Her mouth and nose are, like, NONEXISTENT. o5. Tai, Raven's boy. ;) Another failed attempt at drawing a guy. o6. Skye again. She has no nose, or any bones in her hand. And judging by the size of her shoulders, her head is freakin' ENORMOUS.

2003 - the year I was introduced to computer-generated art.
Row One: o1. Nightstar, that squirrel chick. My first ever attempt at colouring something on computer. I used a mouse. It took about THREE HUNDRED YEARS?! Haha, I didn't know how to do grass so she just stood on a smooth mound of green dirt. o2. MY FIRST EVER TABLET DRAWN PICTURE.  Ohoho, the horror. The absolute horror. :nirvana: o3. An oekaki, showing my elation at having received a tablet. (Nacho. <3) o4. Some pencil crap in my art folio for school.

Row Two: o1. A request. Biggest freakin' eyes ever. o2. LOLOL. Oh, man, God, what the. That's Tale, I believe. Monstrisifed. o3. Alysoun. Or whatever her name is. Aless? Alyss? Ehh. Check out those anime eyes, fellas. o4. Raven's mum. :) o5. Akuzhin again. o6. Qian, my hot DJ dude, looking heinously unhot and devoid of facial structure.

Row Three: o1. Tale. :) With Buttons, the catblob. I really, really liked this picture, back in the day. o2. Haha, crazyass fanart of *enduro's Cassidy, as a birthday gift. Her mouth is like a piece of white plastic. o3. Firiethanjel. Or, Angel. A lot of people liked this, but I never understood why. Her face is flat. o4. Part of an entry for the Monthly Anime Gaijin. I came, like, second for Artistic Skill and third for Creativity, or something. Whoo. :D o5. An obscene self portrait.

2004
Row One: o1. A request. This was sort of a portrait, based on a few photos I'd been given. Attempt at realism. Attempt. o2. Buttons, the catblob. And Tale. Lunar New Year, year of the monkey. :) I remember hating Tale's hair. And her face is just so.. flat!! And lipless. And.. ?! o3. TINY, WHACK LIPS. TINY. And how is it possible her head stays up on that neck? TELL ME. o4. Tanzin, the Pyro. He's such a beanpole. o5. Oh, ew. This was drawn for my school's anime club, Shinwa. Ew. God, wtf. :(

Row Two: o1. A birthday picture for Pucca. I remember sort of trying out a new style. o2. My Gaia Avatar pic. I used to really, really like this. But now, her face makes me ANGRY. D: I mean, her nose is like, "HELLO. I'M ABSENT." And her mouth is like, "LOLLLL, my lips are flat." o3. Oekaki. Strangely, one of my favourite pics. o4. Gaia commission for Zen. I hate his face, the mouth in particular. It looks like it's made out of clay. o5. My first and last attempt at Painter.

Row Three: o1. Crazy oekaki. o2. Stupid oekaki. I think I was trying to do some semi-realism, or something equally strenuous. o3. Little Jip, and Joielle. Entries for a mascot comp (didn't win). Still fond of her, though. Was aiming to draw more lush lips. Also started emphasising a more curvaceous anatomy. o4. Gaia commission for Mariabird. I think this is still one of my cleanest CGs yet. Her dreadlocks look like fat, dead worms.

2005
Row One: o1. Gaia commission for Freakeh. I never really liked how this one turned out. The faces were just so goddamn shiny, and unnatural looking. I liked the pink chick's hair, though. o2. Gaia commission again - a sketch for Princess Nausicaa. Though her nose is too nonexistent (an ongoing theme of mine, it seems), I'm kinda fond of this. o3. A gift for ~koyukii. 'twas her avatar. This is still one of my absolute favourites. I'm not even entirely sure why. But I'm really, really fond of it. <3 o4. I'm gradually getting a better hold on drawing noses. Two shots from my La Mascarade de La Vie piece - from the digital panel. Though they're definitely not my best efforts with CG, the drawings seem.. ierno, a better balance between real and cartoon. The compilation of all the panels for the final piece is probably one of my absolute favourites, too. I don't think I've ever put so much work into something before.

Row Two: o1. Yeah, another snippet from La Mascarade de la Vie. Used a ref for that 'un. Was my first go at coloured pencils since 2003, I think. o2. Untitled. A completely spontaneous piece. I don't even remember what was going through my mind at the time, but we can safely assume I wasn't a happer camper. =P o3. Hah. From my collaboration with *enduro. We rushed this one, a lot. But it turned out pretty awes in the end, I think. I love it, really. There's just so much put into it. It seems to be one of my more vibrant pieces, too. I wish I could have the same sort of control over colour in my other pieces. o4. Another offensive-looking self portrait. Urgh. o5. I think this is the only kiriban picture I ever drew. Lol. :o For some reason, I'm pretty fond of this. It was entirely rushed, and whatever, but I like the colours I used, and the calmness of it all.

Row Three: o1. RAAAVvveeen. Man, the first picture of Raven since, like, .. oh, ierno. Forever. Commencement of the Raven Revival Project. :) She looks disgusting. :D o2. Yellow Day. She looks pretty gross here, too. I loved the solid lines, and such, though. o3. Ooh. The lineart which took me over 14 hours, or something. I put so, so much effort into this. So. Much. Efff. :| I'm crazy about drawing wild and complicated hair. o4. Another one of my absolute favourites. This was one of the rare occassions where the outcome was almost exactly what I wanted it to be. Throwing more colour and detail into pictures, now. o5. Nothing great. A very tranquil piece of mine. Was testing out browns and beiges and whatever. Russet colours.

2006
Row One: o1. Sylence, the Night Elf. I really liked how her face turned out. I think it was pretty much exactly how I wanted it. Her hair looked a hell of a lot better before I put crazyass highlights on it. And yeah, well. I was aiming for real dynamics and movement in this picture. ...I got halfway there. =P o2. Akuzhin - remix'd. Putting more and more effort into my pieces - almost to the point where I'm completely exhausted afterwards. Though this ate up my brain, I had awesome fun drawing her hair.

Row Two: o1. The coloured lineart. I remember having headaches through drawing this - I just put so much effort into it, that I deprived myself of sleep. In the end, though, I was disappointed. Didn't get quite the reaction I wanted. I guess I was just underwhelmed. I like it, though. And I guess I'm proud, but.. I'm over it? o2. And here we are, the most recent piece. And the one that's made the most impact on everyone, for some reason. Like, seriously, I don't understand. I am fond of this, yeah, but.. ierno. I have weird taste, maybe. =P

Wow man, I remember first seeing your art at Elfwood, being totally blown away! I really really liked the fire faerie pictures ;). Unbelievable that that's already four years ago (now that I think of it, this July I will be drawing for about four years... so that kinda makes sense I guess). Anyway, the progress you made over the years is amazing! Very cool to see this compilation.
:iconl-chan-sama:
I love looking at your progression; you can see how far your talent is taking you! I really think your skills have done you well, and I know that we can expect nothing but wonderful work from you as you continue on your journey. :D
:iconhchan:
i've always wanted to do one of these, but most
of my old art is back at my mum's house, so it
would be hard to get to..><
